Polaroid panoramas

By Paul Schiek. From plrds.com, a polariod picture website. I really love these. I am investigating polaroid cameras and film on ebay. I propose we make the Jordan trip a fortnight of polaroid panoramas. I really like that this site is divided into polaroid pictures people have taken, and polaroid pictures they've found somewhere. This one, from the found section, is particularly lovely:

Beautiful failures

A beautiful 60s soviet amphibious car someone has in their shed. From a quite lovely website called English Russia with the beguiling tagline 'because something cool happens daily on 1/6 of the earth's surface'. I don't know if I believe this thing ever worked, let alone worked on water. This is perhaps because it reminds me too much of these:

which are the creations of belgian sculptor Panamarenko, whose works have been described as exercises in failure, which I like. I am undecided if I like the russian submarine car more or less if it works.

Shipbreaking

Shipbreaking pictures by Edward Burtynsky. I find most gigantic things made of metal quite fascinating and faintly terrifying, but ships in particular, and ships being taken apart with only hammers and crowbars even more. There are more on his webiste here. And pictures of the little bits these end up in in the ship recycling section. (There is also a quite nice photo essay by Brendan Corr on shipbreaking here.) I think all of the Burtynsky stuff is extraordinary, but along with the ships, I'm really taken with the quarries:

Swimming pools

More things I love - empty swimming pools. These are pictures by J. Bennett Fitts.

These are also lovely - from derelict london:

I'm spoiling you - two nice things today

A whole website devoted to pictures of people jumping on hotel beds at bedjump.com

I love how this hyperactive excitement comes out looking so peaceful with people drifting in the air. I think you would look particularly good in one of these pictures. You might like to experiment. I think the one above is my favourite. Here are a couple of runners up:

Today's nice thing

I don't remember where I found this. But I love it. I think it's in Taiwan. But I didn't find it there. I have never seen such a beautiful house. I want one.
